As part of the Sports Organization course, students experienced the sport of seated volleyball.
Bandırma Onyedi Eylül University Faculty of Sports Sciences, Department of Sports Management and Department of Physical Education and Sports Teaching students organized a "Sitting Volleyball" event as part of the Youth Week activities, within the framework of the "Organization in Sports" course conducted by Prof. Dr. Serkan HACICAFEROĞLU. The event, held in the faculty's multi-purpose sports hall, saw participation from academic staff and numerous students. Students had the opportunity to experience a different sporting environment than usual volleyball, applying the basic rules of sitting volleyball, a Paralympic sport. The event, aimed at promoting diversity in sports and raising awareness about the experiences faced by individuals with special needs in sports life, provided participants with both fun and educational moments as they competed in a game format with limited movement. Students improved their teamwork, communication, coordination, and quick decision-making skills, while also gaining a closer understanding of the physical and psychological challenges faced by disabled athletes. The sitting volleyball event contributed to strengthening students' empathy and highlighted the importance of inclusive sports. Participants gained awareness of the need for sports to be accessible to everyone, and learned through experience the importance of the active participation of individuals with disabilities in social life through sports. The event, organized by the Faculty of Sports Sciences, contributed to the development of students' athletic skills as well as their social responsibility, sensitivity, and awareness. The highly successful event once again showcased the unifying and inclusive power of sports.
