General Information
The Physical Education and Sports Teaching Program aims to provide students with theoretical knowledge and practical skills in the fields of physical education and sports, enabling them to work effectively as physical education teachers in schools and other educational institutions.
The program also aims to educate qualified professionals who support individuals’ physical development, promote awareness of healthy living, and contribute to the dissemination of sports culture.
Educational and research activities are conducted by 3 associate professors and 1 research assistant. The program has an annual quota of 40 students, and the language of instruction is Turkish.
The program consists of compulsory and elective courses related to the field of Physical Education and Sports Teaching. In their fourth year, students complete an internship at institutions affiliated with the Ministry of National Education.
Graduates are equipped with knowledge of the fundamental sciences of physical education and sports, educational and teaching techniques, and practical skills in various sports disciplines. They also possess pedagogical qualifications and the ability to support individuals’ physical, mental, and social development.
To graduate from the program, students must meet the following requirements:
- Successfully complete all compulsory and elective courses specified in the program,
- Fulfil the total credit requirement of 240 ECTS,
- Successfully complete all internships and practical training,
- Complete a graduation thesis or project.
The program lasts four years and includes the following course groups:
- Basic science courses (anatomy, physiology, biomechanics, etc.),
- Sports science courses (sports psychology, sports management, training science, etc.),
- Educational science courses (teaching methods, educational psychology, etc.),
- Practical sports and physical education courses (various sports disciplines and techniques),
- Elective courses.
Compulsory internships and practical training are conducted during the seventh and eighth semesters of the program. Through these internships, students observe educational practices in school environments, develop practical teaching skills, and gain experience in real working environments.
Various activities, including field studies in sports disciplines, laboratory applications, practical work in fitness centres, and teaching-method applications, enable students to reinforce their theoretical knowledge and develop their professional skills.
Students who successfully complete the program are awarded a “Bachelor’s Degree in Physical Education and Sports Teaching” and obtain the title of “Physical Education and Sports Teacher.”
Graduates may work in the following institutions and positions:
- As physical education teachers in public schools affiliated with the Ministry of National Education,
- As physical education teachers in private schools,
- As coaches or administrators in sports clubs,
- As instructors in sports centres,
- As specialists or staff members in recreation and sports organisations.
- Primary, secondary, and high schools,
- Sports halls and facilities,
- Sports clubs,
- Health and rehabilitation centres,
- Recreation facilities,
- Sports management and event organisation companies.
Graduates may continue their academic careers by applying to master’s and doctoral programs in fields such as sports sciences, physical education and sports management, sports psychology, training science, and sports health.
